made-up memory

a coincidental, one-sided connection

the sleep with him
i was restless
feeling his warmth beside me
and knowing its impermanence

an airplane's tail
pulling across the sky, disappearing
like smoke from a cigarette

ashes
in a teacup
the saucer missing
a piece of aimless driftwood
a hand-me-down trinket
origins unknown

my one-sided love
my right to his left
my waking dreams, his dreamless sleep
me; awake and drunk
famished and innocent

fruit, grow your womb around my core
i wait to be sheltered
seeing my hands
floating across his body
a made-up memory
